The Caldaro lake is, according to the environmental organization Legambiente, one of the cleanest freshwater lakes of Italy. Therefore the lake has been awarded with 5 stars for water quality by the environmental organization. Obviously pleased by this award is Wilfried Battisti-Matscher, major of Caldaro: "The huge investments into the sewerage system during the past years show results; the Caldaro lake has the quality of drinking water".
